Big Update

Well the last post was just before I turned 21, and this post is gonna be a big one. Here goes:

Las Vegas was great for oh so many reasons. After a slightly delayed flight into the famed McCarran airport in Las Vegas, I recognized a familiar face. Andy Boranz walked up to me and recognized me right away. The conversation was brisk, but it mostly came down to a few important facts. First, he was in town for a bachelor party, and there were a bunch of AEPi brothers around the city. Second, he had been meaning to call me concerning a housing opportunity on campus. Still too early to tell whether it will pan out the way we want, but something is better than nothing. The great fraternity get together didn't end there. The next morning I bought into a $40 no-limit Texas hold'em tournament at Harrah's casino. Sitting next to my brother-in-law was Andy Boranz himself. With him were a number of other brothers. Sadly all of the AEPi brothers are not the best poker players. I was the last to go out of us at 17 out of 67.

The rest of my time in Vegas was sort of a blur. I sat 3/6 limit hold'em and took $100 off the table. Then I ended up losing most of it after dinner at a different 3/6 table. I'm not going to elaborate on what I did past that, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

After returning home to Vegas, I spent a solid 4 hours cleaning up the mess of crap that Brett left around the apartment after moving out. Needless to say I only got about 1/2 way through my cleaning operations. My bedroom is absolutely beautiful, with so much extra space. I need to spend some time looking for new furniture. The living room was left until after the trip home.

Dan Levin and I drove to Milwaukee for a few days. The trip was both eventful and uneventful all at the same time. The first night was a family hannukah party. It was great to see the nephews and my sister. Tuesday night Dan and I went out to the bars down on the east side of Milwaukee. The first bar we hit was the Eastsider. The bar I wanted to take my first legal drink at. It was for sure my kind of place, but not Dan’s in any way. After a few beers by me and one scotch by Dan, we headed down to a bar called Live. It was more to Dan’s liking, but there were only 4 people in the bar that night. We decided to leave when one of the other patrons pulled out a playstation and a Wheel of Fortune game. The next night was uneventful except for my unfortunate incident with the police. I got a speeding ticket while heading to the east side with Jackie: $126.80 and 6 points.

All through the week of traveling, Elissa and I talked almost every night. I’m real happy about that situation and hope it continues to go well. New Years plans look very interesting indeed, but still nothing solid.

That’s the long update. Sorry about that, I’ll be updating again soon.

YAY Birthdays

So today is the big 21st birthday. Lizo took me out for breakfast and a gigantic screwdriver. I swear it was 75% alcohol, 20% orange juice, and 5% ice. My first legal drink hit my stomach like a ton of bricks, and the biscuits and gravy didn't help the situation.

Tonight I'm going to dinner with Nate, Lizo, and Brett. Should be a good old time...with drinks. I'm so excited for my trip to Vegas coming up.

Wow two posts in two days

Yeah, here I am procrastinating like crazy. I'll even give you my top ten reasons to procrastinate...if I get to it later. Right now I'm not working on my Middle East History paper and later I might not be working on my Political Science Power and Choice paper. Amazing how much work you might not get done if you try hard enough.

Quick update

Today marked the end of this semester's classes, but not the end of the work. Hebrew is all done as of today, but that's the only class. I'm currently working on the two papers, one due Friday afternoon and on due Saturday morning. I'm so close to being finished, but not quite there yet.

On a personal note, I'm also quite close to the big day on Sunday. According to the countdown clock its 3 days 12 hours and change. Don't quite have any plans yet for the big day, but I'm sure they'll materialize soon enough. That's all for the quick update.

Time to Update

So I guess its been about a week since my last update. Not sure if anyone reads this thing, but meh. It was acually a pretty good week. The TIPTY play began its auditions this week and the parents have taken charge. This is good news for me on so many levels. I don't have to kill myself during exam time to make the play run. That's a huge weight off my shoulders.

Classes have been interesting this week, as they always seem to be the weeks leading up to exams. In my European Union politics class, the professor took the week off and let her TA's handle the class. They chose to do a review session for the final exam. They managed to stuff 15 weeks worth of acual material into a day and a half of class time. It was great, they actually explained what was on the power point projector, not just reading it. Honestly, how do some of these professors get their jobs?

This weekend is the 9th grade retreat for December. There's a lot of buzz going on about this one because its the Drugs and Alcohol retreat. Its always a fun one, but like all things I've done recently...we'll have to wait and see. I hope for the best.

I'll update again when the weekend is over.

SOOOO Close

I'm getting so close to that magical day when I don't have to ask if its alright to buy alcohol. This country is fucked up and backwards, but ehh its the system I live in. As much as I learned about the legislative process this summer in DC, I now understand how difficult it is to effect real change on this country.

The calls have started to flood into my mailbox at work about the letter I sent out. I know I'm breaking a few hearts, and I feel so horrible about abandoning my kids. However, I'd feel even worse in 6-8 months when I found out how difficult law school is going to be.

Lately I've been doing a lot of late nights to get papers done and what not. However, when I stay up late I tend to get introspective, even while writing about European integration or Hannah Arendt and Eric Fromm. I've noticed that everything here at Minnesota has become an uphill battle for me. From my job, love life, classes, friendship, and even the fraternity. I don't know what it is about this place, but it appears to have had that effect on my life.
